Born in Taipei, 2000, Shan's early life took root in Shanghai when his parents relocated there when he was just under the years of two. His early life took place in between the two cities across the strait of South China Sea. Growing up in Shanghai, he navigated various international school environments and formed connections with a multitude of global peers who, like him, embraced the experience of being "Third-culture kids."

In Shan's view, the vast diversity of human cultures ultimately reflects our shared humanity, a perspective he embodies through his lens. His works are deeply personal rather than political, stemming from his geopolitical upbringing. Currently residing in London, Shan is pursuing studies in "Performance Design and Practice" at Central Saint Martins College of Arts and Design.
